When it comes to guitar exercises, particularly finger exercises for guitar, it’s important to occasionally change things up in a way to “shock” your hands into new ways of guitar fingering. Much like doing regular exercises at the gym.

Today I’ll show you what I consider to be one of the best guitar finger exercises you can use. And it’s based on a guitar finger exercise you’re likely already familiar with!

All it takes is a slight variation of that familiar guitar finger exercise to make this one mother of a guitar exercise. It’s going to create new patterns guitar fingering that will automatically make you more capable of playing advanced guitar drills as well as riffs, licks, and songs.

In this video I’ll break down the guitar exercise, demonstrate the proper guitar fingering, and show how you can start playing it immediately to a metronome and get the timing down. Then you’ll be ready to take this guitar finger exercise for a spin!

Guitar finger dexterity exercises can be tricky at first, that’s why it’s very important to take your time with it and walk yourself through the right guitar fingering so you can get your fretting hand accustomed to that order of motion. It might take a few repeated fingering exercises on one string before you start to walk it across all of your strings. So just perform the guitar exercise over and over on the low E string to start off and build some momentum.
